This year, the last day of school brought eighth grade graduation for Colby. There was just as much pageantry as a high school graduation…robes, rehearsals, trips, brunch, and the big dance. In addition, Colby was salutatorian and had to give a speech at the ceremony. He learned that on Friday, and the only day available to write the speech was Tuesday, the day before the ceremony. After having his rough draft laughed at in class, he was pretty traumatized and not very excited to write any kind of speech at all. Tuesday night was a long night of brainstorming, googling quotes, tears, and then a final draft that sounded pretty good. Wednesday night, he confidently delivered that final draft to the crowd of students, parents and teachers and received lots of praise for a job well done. Then it was off to the neon-themed dance to celebrate the end of junior high.
